Why this Page?

The number of parents joining our private Facebook page is growing. We decided to create this website for a few different reasons.

  • We wanted a central, public site where we could report out on the action we are taking to advocate for parents who have children with special needs.
  • Parents and Educators in British Columbia now have access to a Resources page that will assist them in learning about the policies, procedures and guidelines of the education system, as well as a listing of organizations available to support them.
  • It is time to speak up and speak out about the challenges our children with special needs are facing when it comes to education. We will be sharing stories from parents who have children with special needs on our blog.

Please Note: Our group identifies ‘special needs’ as per the British Columbia Ministry of Education definition:

Students with special needs have disabilities of an intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional, or behavioural nature, or have a learning disability or have exceptional gifts or talents.

If you are interested in joining our private Facebook group, please send an email to equitableaccesstoeducation@gmail.com with a brief description of why you would like to join.
